The Rankin House is on the National Register of Historic Places, therefore there is plenty of documentation on it. When I met with my client she had more plans and drawings than I could have expected. I selected about 1/4 of what she had and I am going to include these in my final documents. I am having trouble uploading them right now but I will try again later. When I went to visit the site I took over 200 pictures of the existing conditions. Here are a few:
This is the existing Prep Kitchen. My client would like to keep all appliances and existing cabinets, althought I can change the finish on them.
This will be the Dining Room, it had water damage from Hurricane Gustav.
This is the existing guest bathroom.
Some of the intricate brickwork on the exterior.
This is the Grand Salon which will serve as a living room to the hotel, and also can be converted for receptions or meetings. The artwork over the mantel was commissioned by the client.
This is a view from one of the 4 balconies out across the property. Along with the house the client has around 100 surrounding acres.
Right now this is what the client wants to use as her personal office. This is a good example of the condition of the existing structure.
This is a view of the main Living Room and the front door to Fountainhead.
This is the back view of Fountainhead. This side faces the Cane Bayou. When the house was originally built in 1939 this was the front because most visitors arrived by boat from the bayou.
This round room is part of the Dining Room. This view also shows two of the balconies.
Below the main kitchen is a small basement. This will be great for storage.
The main structure consists of hollow brick construction. The walls are exteremly thick. When my client originally purchased the house the exterior walls were the only thing in existance. There were no windows and no floors, just dirt. She has installed all interior walls and everything besides the exterior brick. She added one doorway to the outside upstairs, but other than that she has not changed anything to the original brickwork.
